Synopsis:Centuries ago, sibling rivalry tore Aramith apart. As punishment, the losers were stripped of their immortal birthright and banished to Earth. There, they wasted away from old age and diseases. However, there is hope…

If a Shaw child, born on the 12th day of the 12th month offers her soul in a public sacrifice, then the exiles will be forgiven and welcomed home to Aramith.

Aubrey Shaw is that child, but dying for the exiles is not on her to-do list. Using her gift as a Jumper, Aubrey leaps between bodies to escape relentless shape-shifting hunters. Only, shedding her skin is not enough. Not when Joshua, her best-friend-turned-hunter, is hell-bent on dragging her to the altar.

Will Aubrey’s love for Joshua change his mind?

Or, will she have to trust the scarred stranger who shows up out of the blue cloaked in lies and secrets? Doing so means giving up on Joshua. But betting on Joshua's love could do more than break her heart.

It could kill her.

This book was so unexpectedly refreshingly good. The author took this new concept, one that I've never seen explored in any book that I've read and took up deeper in the tapestry of the whole picture and how everyone is connected. This story follows the main character, Aubrey who is basically put into a horrible situation that is out of her control.

Basically her former best friend is out to kill her to put her on the altar as a sacrifice, and this story tracks how she survives and works through this. She has major conflicts and betrayals with those closest to her and at points she honestly doesn't know who to trust, and who wants the best for her. It's highly-suspenseful, definitely a page-turner that makes you drool for the sequel that will come out.

The only reason why I personally didn't give it a full five stars is because the ending was disappointingly rushed up, because something that Aubrey had been preparing for... didn't exactly work out let's just say that. A minor plot twist thrown in there which I wasn't expecting and kind of put a negative damp to the book overall.

The writing is fast-paced, and I honestly just sat down and read this book in sitting, which is always a sign of a superb book in my opinion. Would highly recommend to anyone who likes action/adventure types of stories.

  1. I read and reviewed this one myself recently so I was pretty curious to compare our thoughts! I think you enjoyed this one more than me, but it was a good read in general. I would have to agree that the ending was a bit rushed and tidied up quickly.
